What personal quality inspires loyalty, even when the leadership sometimes gets it wrong? Good leaders don’t aim for us to see how powerful they are, but to see our own potential.
This gets me to thinking about the other side of the equation. People seem to want authority figures and once having them will cease to question them. No fact checking after acceptance. This is glaringly obvious in the mainstream world where legacy media constantly lies but people still glom onto it. Not having second opinions is the road to ruin.... in spiritual life as well. Trusted authorities means you've checked out what they have to say, and not just be a true believer. True believers are the fundamentals of fundamentalism. Mature devotion relies on logic and reason as much as implicit faith.
Good writing!! I checked my email feed for your name and found out your posts were all going into my secondary box.. I've changed that....
"True believers are the fundamentals of fundamentalism. "
Brilliant and insightful. Thanks for the dialogue. Without blind followers, we wouldn't have such an issue with corrupted and complacent leadership. They'd have nobody to fulfil the "I wanna be guru" desires with.
I don't want to jump on the anti-guru wagon, but there is something to be said for a paradigm shift in how that role is enacted. The service mood needs to be emphasised to the point where the 'authoritarian' mood is invisible. I just can't play that game any more. Life is too short.
Brilliant! There are gurus, we can be assured of that. Mostly in the nitya lila but we can still be in contact with them. As far as earthly authorities go tho, that has to be judged on a case by case basis. lolol. Would you buy a used car from this man?
Thank you
