Please accept my humble respects. I’m sending out this update for two main reasons:
to let you know what’s happening with Suburban Mysticism
to seek your blessings for a new direction
I haven’t been publishing to Suburban Mysticism over the last few months. The main reason is that I want to take it in a different direction. So far, I’ve written a lot of observational and opinionated pieces on current topics and social trends. I’ve also written some goofy stories from my life. More valuably, I’ve retold some stories from my favourite text: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam
Looking back at my writing, the articles that I feel the most connected to are the Bhāgavatam stories. They’re timeless and, despite my lack of qualification, even attempting to convey them is so uplifting.
So here’s my prayer to anyone who cares to reciprocate. For the pleasure of the Vaiṣṇavas, I would like to dedicate this publication to the retelling of the amazing stories given to us in the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam.
कृष्णे स्वधामोपगते धर्मज्ञानादिभि: सह ।
कलौ नष्टदृशामेष पुराणार्कोऽधुनोदित: ॥ ४३ ॥kṛṣṇe sva-dhāmopagate
dharma-jñānādibhiḥ saha
kalau naṣṭa-dṛśām eṣa
purāṇārko ’dhunoditaḥ
This Bhāgavata Purāṇa is as brilliant as the sun, and it has arisen just after the departure of Lord Kṛṣṇa to His own abode, accompanied by religion, knowledge, etc. Persons who have lost their vision due to the dense darkness of ignorance in the Age of Kali shall get light from this Purāṇa.
These Bhāgavatam articles are a lot more work for me than just riffing on about my life and how I see things; so, I don’t expect that they will come out on a schedule. I’ve thought to break them into episodes to reflect the reality that even five minutes of someone’s time in the age of information is a big ask.
So please give your blessings. I’d like to start with the fantastic story that leads into the battle between Vṛtrāsura and King Indra. There is so much intrigue and wisdom in this section of the Sixth Canto that many books could expand upon it.
Also, feel free to drop me a line by hitting ‘reply’ in your inbox. I do appreciate the occasional bit of encouragement I get, but I’d also take some constructive criticism as a blessing. I want to improve in this service of writing and avoid making any assumptions about who I am and what I’m actually qualified to do.
The truth is, I’m basically a train-wreck of a Kali-yugafied human being who is just super grateful to have such treasures as the Bhāgavatam and the Vaiṣṇavas in my life. For some reason, beautiful Kṛṣṇa loves me and keeps me inspired to serve. By your blessings, I hope it stays that way.
dāso 'smi,
Ekendra
P.S. - Every cent of the money donated has gone to the cows. I keep an open record of it here.
Suburban Mysticism is free, but if you feel inspired and want to return some love, consider helping Ekendra to care for cows, or share the article with others.
